Emmanuel Opoku Odoom, 19, surrendered himself to the Divisional MTTU Office at Agona Swedru four days after he had knocked down and killed two people on the spot and injured three others at Agona Kwanyaka sometime last week.

Police Chief Inspector Elizabeth Ayibontey, Station Officer of the Divisional MTTU, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Saturday at Agona Swedru. She mentioned the deceased as Ms Anesthesia Anamuah 24, female teacher at Agona Kwanyako Presbyterian Primary School and Mr Emmanuel Bamfo, 57, toilet attendant at Kwanyako.

The injured Yaa Tisewaa 15, Mr Michael Yaw Badu, 42, and Adjoa Nkrumah, 45, who are on admission at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital are responding to treatment.

Chief Inspector Ayibontey said on June 20, 2009, the suspect and his friends went on a drinking spree, after which they started driving dangerously within the Agona Swedru town.

The Station Officer said the suspect with his 'Sakawa' friends later decided to travel to Kasoa and on reaching Agona Kwanyako, the driver instead of slowing down, continued to speed, knocked and killed the two who were returning home from church. According to Chief Inspector Ayitbontey, after the incident Odoom was quickly picked by his friends who were following him with a different salon car and drove away without reporting to the police. She noted that the cruel attitude on the part of the suspect infuriated some angry residents who rushed to the accident scene and set the car ablaze.

Chief Inspector Ayitbontey said the police are investigating the matter after which the suspect would be arraigned.
