Accra, Jan. 21, GNA - An unidentified car on Friday night knocked down two female teenagers on the Kanda Highway, killing them instantly, police said on Monday.
Mr Gabriel Amankwa Dokyi, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Officer In-Charge of the Nima Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU), told the GNA that the victims were identified as Fulela Issakah 17 and Nasratu Issakah 15.
He said the victims were crossing the road to the opposite direction at around 2300 hours when the car, being driven at top speed knocked them, killing the two on the spot. Mr Dokyi said onlookers at the scene could not identify the car because the place was dark and the driver sped away. The police, he said were investigating the case and the car could either be a Passat, Golf or Jetta because a VW crest was found at the accident scene.
"We have sent information to all stations in Ghana and the neighbouring countries to look out for any car of such type with questionable features," DSP Dokyi said. He said the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the Police Hospital for autopsy.
Commenting on road issues during the CAN 2008, especially Ghana's victory on Sunday, DSP Dokyi said that no accident was reported at the Nima Police Station adding, "the place was very calm."
