Ho Central NPP elects parliamentary candidate

Ho, Oct 12, GNA - Dr John Letsa, a 58-year-old Medical Practitioner, was on Tuesday elected the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Ho-Central Constituency.

He polled 48 votes to beat Mr Seth D. Kpodo, an Hotelier and Colonel Ben Attakey (rtd), who had nine and four votes, respectively, in absentia, in an election supervised by Mr Robert Atamah, Ho District Director of the Electoral Commission (EC).

Mr Seth Anyadi, Ho Central Constituency Chairman of NPP, said it was "not the intention and wish of the current Constituency Executive Committee to litigate but unbearable situations have compelled us to fight for our rights.

"Despite the Ho High Court orders in adjudicating the impasse between us, a group of people are still drawing their destructive agenda to destabilise our positive efforts.

"We must all bury our differences and reconcile so that we can all give the needed support to our candidate", Mr Anyadi said.

In his acceptance speech, Dr Letsa appealed to all warring factions within the Party to unite to propel the party to wrest the seat from the NDC.

Mr Atamah told newsmen that he conducted the elections because none of the three candidates, who filed their nominations to contest the primary, notified the EC of their intention to step-down.

He said the mere absence of Mr Kpodo and Col Attakey at the primary could, therefore, not make him to postpone the election.

However, another invitation to attend NPP Ho Central Parliamentary on Thursday, October 14 was given to Journalists on Tuesday.

It read: "I am directed by the Chairman of the Regional Executive Sub-Committee responsible for Ho Central NPP affairs, Mr E. B. K. Kukah, to invite you to witness election of Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency".
