Hohoe EP marks centenary

Tue, 1 Dec 1998 Source: --

Hohoe (Volta Region) 1 Dec. '98 - Hohoe Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Sunday celebrated its centenary anniversary with a dedication of a reference library. The Church was established by a Bremen Missionary Martin Seeger in November 1898. Speaking after the church service, Torgbe Gadusu the Sixth Paramount Chief of Gbi Traditional Area, appealed to the leadership of the church to streamline the management of church funds. He noted that the church is rich in resources and the land owners who released large tracts free of charge are becoming aggrieved over its misuse. Torgbe Gadusu paid tribute to the early missionaries and advised the congregation to live as Christians and avoid hatred and undermining each other. Mr. Obed Kissiedu, Hohoe District Chief Executive advised the congregation to live in peace and respect their chiefs who are custodians of the land. He urged them to maintain a good environment and to replant trees they fell for charcoal and firewood. Mr. Kissiedu also advised the congregation to embrace the Value Added Tax [VAT] when it becomes operational next month because lots of revenue will be generated to undertake more development projects. Rev. Dr. Livingstone Buama, a lecturer at the Trinity College, Legon in a sermon prayed that conflicts and wars will one day come to an end to give peace a chance in the world. More than 33 million cedis was realised in an appeal for funds towards the construction of a centenary house.
