Hohoe MP condemns suspension of Nkonya, Alavanyo chiefs

The suspension of Nkonya and Alavanyo chiefs in the Biakoye District by the Volta Regional house of Chiefs is unnecessary, Member of Parliament for Hohoe Constituency Dr. Bernice Adiku Heloo has noted.

According to Dr. Heloo, the unfortunate shooting incidence which led to the death of two persons with two others sustaining severe gunshot injuries on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 is purely a matter that requires police investigation.

She noted that the suspension of the two chiefs has the potency of escalating the problem as the two have been condemned and suspended without proper police investigation.

‘The Police could leverage on technology to put the Nkonya and Alavanyo under drone surveillance instead of placing curfew on the two towns.’ Dr. Bernice Adiku Heloo has noted

The Ministry of the Interior slapped a curfew on the Alavanyo and Nkonya following a renewed clash between the two communities.

The curfew hours took effect Sunday, April 23, 2017 from 8:00pm to 5:30am.

The decision by the Interior Ministry was upon the advice of the Volta Regional Security Council.

Mr. Ambrose Dery, the Minister of the Interior, had earlier on Wednesday renewed the curfew hours imposed on Alavanyo and Nkonya townships from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am.

Meanwhile, Volta Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Nana Asomah Hinneh, has bemoaned the refusal of residents of Nkonya and Alavanyo traditional areas in cooperating with the police administration to arrest perpetrators involved in the renewed clashes which led to the killing of three persons
