Hohoe Police avert bloody clash at Sports festival

Hohoe, March 12, GNA - The swift response of the Police averted a bloody clash between students of the Hohoe E.P. Senior High School (HEPSS) and their Saint Mary counterparts at the 20th Northern Zone Inter-Schools Sports Festival at the Hohoe in the Volta Region. What was perceived as biased officiating in a volley ball contest between the two schools sparked off violent protests bringing proceedings to an abrupt end.

Mr Teddy Ofori, Assistant Headmaster of HEPSS, the venue for the Festival said three students were injured in the confusion that erupted. He said the injured students were rushed to the Hohoe Government Hospital and have since been discharged. Mr Ofori said furniture and the school's notice board were destroyed in the confusion. He said security has been beefed up to ensure that the Festival goes through to its conclusion on Saturday.

The Assistant Headmaster commended the Police for their prompt response that averted any serious injury to the students and destruction of school property. Mr Ofori appealed to officials and students to explore laid down procedures to address their grievances and to protect vital school property and the lives of each other.

Mr Daniel Ablordey, Hohoe District Police Commander commended the local FM Station, Lolonyo, 93.9 for drawing the attention of the Police to the incident in a prompt manner that helped to save the situation from getting out of hands.
