Hohoe Roads being overhauled

Hohoe, Feb. 16, GNA- Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, announced at Hohoe that the Government was undertaking a complete overhaul of intra-town roads in the Hohoe township and major feeder roads within the Hohoe District at the cost of 23 billion. The Regional Minister, who announced these during a tour of the district, said the project was the first major road rehabilitation works in the area in many years.

Mr Dzamesi recalled that it was during the Busia regime (1969-1972), some three-and-half decades ago, that the Hohoe District had its first tarred roads.

He said it must not pass without notice that, those very roads constructed under Busia's Rural Development Programme were now being rehabilitated during the New Patriotic Party regime, which took its roots from the Danquah-Busia tradition.

Mr Peter John Amewu, the District Chief Executive, said the projects were testimonies of the Government's pledge to distribute the national cake equally irrespective of voting patterns. Gohez Construction Firm was working on 4.9 kilometres of town roads at the cost of 4.9 billion cedis, and was expected to complete the project, which was started in December 2006, by December 2007 at a cost of 11.58 billion cedis.

M/S Survivors Limited was also working on three kilometres of roads leading to and out of Hohoe at a cost of 11.76 billion cedis and was expected to complete the work by October 2008.

The roads for the two contracts include Hohoe-Fodome, District Assembly access roads, Graphic-stadium, and market-hospital roads. The road works, being funded under the Road Fund and Government of Ghana budgetary allocation was expected to give a major boost to food haulage and tourism in the district.
