The Hohoe Youth Forum of the National Democratic Congress has sent a warm congratulatory message to Prof. Evans Atta-Mills on his overwhelming victory at the recent NDC congress in Accra.

Prof. Mills polled 1,362 votes while his nearest contender, Dr. Ekwow Spro-Garbrah, polled 145 votes.

The Hohoe Youth Forum, at a news conference at Hohoe, congratulated all the four contestants for a clean campaign and congress. The other two are Alhaji Mahama Iddrisu, who polled 137 and Addie Annan, who polled 38 votes.

Addressing the conference, Mr. Siki Abibu, the leader of the Hohoe Youth Forum, said now that the elections are over, “we want to see Prof. Mills take the first step to bring all the others together to move to victory by all means in 2008.”

“With him as flagbearer now, the Elephant must start moving to the bush since as at now none of the 21 people standing for their flagbearership is fit enough to stand the experienced Prof. Mills,” SIki observed.

Reflecting the concerns of the ordinary people of this country, Siki Abibu observed that “people everywhere in the country want a change. They are crying about the tough economic conditions facing the country. Workers wonder how a group of them should be put on fantastic salaries whilst the government has refused to listen to the others,”

“For Christmas this year, some workers did not receive their salaries whist some of those who did, only received part of their salaries,” he narrated. Mr. Siki, also a member of the Regional Youth Wing Steering Committee promised Ghanaians that only the NDC can take them out of their present difficulties. He therefore called on the people of Ghana to rally around to bring Prof. Mills to power to enable him pursue the human-centred policies that he has clearly demonstrated he has for this country.

Mr. Abibu also prayed the NDC leadership to work on the members who have defected to other political parties, especially DFP, to come back since NDC is set to win the next elections.

The Forum wondered at the praises being piled on the government for claiming to have taken the country out of the economic doldrums. “The common man in the street does not appreciate all these praises if he cannot eat at least two square meals in a day. Though we all appreciate the introduction of the capitation grant, what is the story in the Secondary and Tertiary schools?” the Youth Forum queried.
