Home receives 8012,000.00 mother-care items

Asante-Mampong (Ash), June 7, GNA - The Mampong Babies Home, at Asante-Mampong, has taken delivery of mother-care items, valued at 8012,000.00, to help improve conditions at the facility.

These included mattresses, bed-sheets, blankets, baby dresses, curtains, towels, bibs, baby carriers and napkins.

They were a donation from the Ghana Association in Aragon, Zaragoza, Spain.

Mr Ernest Ofori La- Kumi, Financial Secretary of the Association, which is made up of a group of Ghanaians based in the European country, said it was their contribution towards the upkeep of the children.

He pledged further assistance to the home, saying, they were proud to be associated with efforts at helping to take care of the socially disadvantaged.

The Home, established by the Anglican Missionaries Sisters of the "Order of the Holy Paraclete, Whitby, United Kingdom (UK), in 1967, provides safe shelter for orphans and abandoned kids.

It has for the past 29 years been run by the Anglican Dioceses of Kumasi. With space to accommodate 50 babies, the home at present, has a children population of 38.

Right Reverend Dr Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, who jointly received the gifts with the Superintendent of the Home, Madam Mabel Asafo-Adjei, said they were grateful for the gesture.

He invited other individuals and organizations to be part of the noble cause of bringing joy and hope to the poor and less privileged in society.

Madam Asafo-Adjei said one of their major challenges had to do with transportation and appealed for support.

Meanwhile some retired midwives from the UK had mobilized A31,400.00 in aid of the home.

Ms Pauline Vaughton said it came from members of the Saint Peters' Church in Newton-Swamsea, Wales.
