Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has vowed to kick against any attempt by foreign countries to impose homosexuality on Ghanaians.

According to the Nadowli-Kaleo lawmaker, it is not natural to engage in homosexuality and the country’s cultural setup frowns on this act; thus, Ghana is not prepared and ready to accommodate such unnatural behaviour in the country.

Speaking on Okay FM’s Ade Akye Abia Morning Show, the long-serving Parliamentarian indicated that “homosexuality is worse than atomic bomb and so for that matter, there is no way we will accept it in country”.

Hon. Alban Bagbin’s outrage is borne out of the comment made by the Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Ms. Theresa May, urging leaders of Commonwealth nations to overhaul “outdated” anti-gay laws in their countries and said UK “deeply regrets” its role in the legacy of violence and discrimination.

The prime minister drew cheers and applause when she told delegates at the Commonwealth heads of government meeting (GHOGM) that “nobody should face discrimination or persecution because of who they are or who they love”.

Campaigners have urged Ms May to intervene over the colonial-era legislation affecting millions of LGBT+ people, as same-sex relations are still illegal in 36 Commonwealth countries.

But Hon. Alban Bagbin insisted that the country is not accepting such behaviour in the country; urging that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo should come out clear on this and voice his condemnation.
