The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Tsuru II, has directed that all shops in Accra should remain closed during the 2024 Homowo Clean-up Exercise, which will be held on July 2, 2024.

This order was announced at the launch of the clean-up exercise in Accra, on Friday, June 21, 2024.

The king stated that the Ga Traditional Council would enforce the directive to ensure the exercise is a success because the Homowo festival cannot be celebrated in filth.

He added that the exercise is not going to be a nine-day wonder because the traditional council is going to ensure that all the laws of assemblies under its jurisdiction are enforced.

The Ga Mantse ordered the removal of unauthorized banners and posters by the roadsides of the nation's capital, Accra.

He also endorsed an initiative to award the cleanest communities in Accra.

He stated that the cleanest community in the nation's capital would be awarded after every edition of the exercise.

He indicated that the initiative would help achieve the objective of the Homowo Clean Up Exercise, which is to make Accra the cleanest city in the country.

"I fully endorse the initiative to introduce sanitation competitions, with awards to be given to the cleanest areas in the capital.

"The competition will also involve schools, markets, residential areas, offices, workshops, and lorry stations. It is my hope that the attractive awards will incentivize all city dwellers to fully participate in this competition," the King said in a statement read on his behalf.
