A leading member of the Movement for Change, Hopeson Adorye, has alleged some of the reasons former Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, resigned from his position.

According to him, Dubik was allegedly being compelled by certain personalities to sign a contract worth $30 million every month to some ECG contractors to fund a political campaign, but the MD refused.

Adorye claimed without evidence that the former ECG boss was threatened with dismissal if he did not agree to the contract, but because he was not ready to engage in corrupt activities, he resigned.

Speaking in an interview with TV XYZ, Adorye, who used to be a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), applauded Dubik for standing by his principles to resign.

“There was pressure on him to sign a $30 million contract monthly to pay some contractors so that some party would get money to campaign, and he refused. He resisted all the attempts to the extent that he was threatened, but he did not yield. How can you do that?

“So Dubik was serious about his service and not to aid some people in looting the nation. That’s why he said he resigned on personal principle because he can’t disclose such information publicly. The moment he resigned, some of the ECG board members called the contractors to pay them,” Adorye said in Twi.

The now former ECG boss is said to have resigned in a letter to the Board Chairman of the Electricity Company of Ghana, providing no official reason for the resignation.

Dubik Mahama was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and resumed office on May 16, 2022.
