Hospital institutes measures to improve staff living conditions.

Bole (N/R), Jan. 17, GNA - The Bole Hospital has instituted measures to improve upon lifestyles of its staff for increased production and to entice others to accept postings to the district. The measures include study leave for interested staff at the various universities and other health institutions to upgrade their professional skills, refresher courses, for midwives at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, (KATH) award scheme to deserving staff, and birthday presents.

Disclosing this, at the end-of-year party and awards nights for staff held in Bole at the weekend, the District Director of Health Services, Dr. Jacob Yakubu Mahama explained that, so far, two batches comprising three midwives, in each batch have completed their month-long refresher courses at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, and a third batch of another three midwives, had also begun their training in Kumasi.

He said one completed Community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) compound, had been opened, one each at Banda Nkwanta and Gindabo, and that constructional work on three others in Soma, Kulmasa, and Maluwe were completed, four others would soon be constructed and trained health staff posted to each compound to stay and provide the peoples health needs and to make health more accessible and meaningful to the people.

According to him, the hospital was embarking on a regular mop up immunisation exercise to cover all children in the district, and commended UNICEF whose support he said had increased the Expanded Programme on immunisation (EPI), in the district.

In a speech, the Acting District Chief Executive, Alhaji Sulemana Adams Achanso, assured the health staff that, the District Assembly will continue to create enabling environment for them to deliver uninterrupted health services in the district.

He said that the assembly had helped in constructing various CHPS compounds and roads to areas the health staff could not reach, and was pursuing the rural electrification programme vigorously to make life more comfortable for all workers posted to the Bole District.

Alhaji Achanso, disclosed that, for the first time, the assembly was supporting 30 students to study in different areas of health to come back to serve the district, after their training, and pledged the assembly's continuous support to improve on health in the district. In all, awards valued over 15 million cedis were presented to 13 deserving staff as sign of appreciation for their dedicated service and as means of encouraging others to accept posting to the district.

Award for the overall best district health worker of a 14-inch television set valued at 1.5 million cedis went to Mr. Henry Gombilla Asare whilst that of the overall best hospital worker, Madam Florence Kpeng also had a television set. The award for best district health management team worker of a 750 cedis sound system, went to Madam Elizabeth Alizaah, others include the best community health officer award of also 750 sound system presented to Madam Maria Ziblim, and the best health worker award for Jama to Mr. James Jargah. Madam Kate Mununi and Vida Iddisah both had sound systems valued at 750 cedis each for being best health workers for Tuna, and Kalba respectively, whilst Mr. Henry Asare and Cecilia Ewuntomah also had awards for best workers for Sawla and Bole respectively. The rest of the award include best nurse award to Mr. Ibrahim Yakubu, best Para-medical staff award to A.K. Kumah, best labourer award to Tawiah Cambel, best security man award to Braimah Mosi.
