Dr Edward Ackah-Nyamike Jnr, President of the Ghana Hotels Association, has revealed that members of his association are paying for water consumption despite the free water initiative being implemented by the government as a measure to support Ghanaian businesses and the general public in the wake of the COVID-19.
Speaking on the Travel Pass programme hosted by Francis Doku on 3FM 92.7 Sunday, May 31, he called on the authorities to compel the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to desist from asking hotel operators to pay for water bills as this goes against the president’s initiative.
But Dr Ackah-Nyamikeh claimed hotels “are being charged for water when the president directed that water should be free.
“From our engagement with the president, it was clear that he had in mind that everybody whether a commercial or domestic user should be given free water.
“So why should Ghana Water Company Limited continue to charge the commercial users. I wish this would be sorted out, it is very important".
