As part of traditional overlords’ pledge to complement government’s effort at addressing housing deficit Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has released a 100-acre land to support, Minister for Works and Housing, Samuel Atta AKyea has disclosed.

According to Samuel Atta Akyea, traditional overlords have shown commitment to the wiping out of the deficit and have donated lands for housing undertakings.

Ghana’s housing deficit is currently assessed as well over two million and whereas the annual housing requirement is about 250,000 units, supply figures are about 45,000 units per annum, holding all factors constant.

Samuel Atta Akyea explained that in light of this, government is embarking on a housing programme aimed at facilitating the construction of 250,000 housing units yearly over the next 8 years, through Public Private Partnership (PPP).

He stated that the Ministry’s outfit is to “keep the price of housing units low through a host of major cost-control factors which increase efficiency and keeps cost to the barest minimum.”

Hence, “majority of Members of Parliament have secured lands for purposes of providing affordable housing units in various constituencies in the country through the creation of land banks.”

The Minister added that this will be the launch pad of the Akufo-Addo flats across the length and breadth of the country.

He expressed gratitude to the Otumfuo for the huge piece of land situated at Dedesua in Kumasi and is one of the many gifts presented to government adding that the Housing Ministry has been invited by Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin, the Okyenhene, for the delineation of land at Kyebi for affordable housing roll-outs.

Mr. Akyea assured Ghanaians of a “modern and resilient society, and to ensure that the development of infrastructure brings about improvement in the overall economic and social well-being of the people of this great country.”
