How father of late Ghana football star Hans Kwofie seized his car key in attempt to protect him from inevitable accident
The tragic death of former Ghana Premier League striker, Hans Kwofie, has brought to the fore some details about the final moments of his life, one of which involved a role his father played.
The death, which occurred on Friday, June 21, 2024, was a result of a road crash, in which another friend of the former striker was also involved in.
According to the details from Sompa Sports that emerged after the death, it turned out Hans Kwofie's father had tried to stop his son from embarking on the trip that eventually led to his demise.
The report said Kwofie's father had seized his car key to stop him from driving, and that the car in which they crashed belonged to another friend.
"Even the car he was using was not his. The car belonged to Samuel Nzemaba. His father had seized his personal car two weeks ago because he did not want him to drive," a sports presenter stated on Saturday, June 22, 2024, on Sompa Sports.
Other details about the crash were that Hans Kwofie was due to travel to Germany in the first week of July to join a new club, while the friend who died with him was to get married a day before their deaths.
"His friend, who was to get married today (Saturday), had come to visit him at home, and they were told of food being prepared; Hans' wife told them she was preparing food, but he said no, the food will take time. So they moved a car to go and eat at a bush chop-bar around Dadwin. They were going to eat and return, and that's when they met the tragedy.
"They had finished eating and were turning around to return when the incident occurred," the report by Sompa Sports added.
Hans Kwofie was a striker and was the Ghana Premier League top scorer in the 2017 season.
The late player made three appearances for Ghana's U-20 side, the Black Satellites.
Some of the Ghana Premier League clubs he played for include Medeama, Ashgold, Legon Cities, Bechem United, Heart of Lions, and Aduana Stars.
The 35-year-old was a player for Birgunj United FC in Nepal until his death.
