The people of Zabzugu /Tatale Constituency in the Northern Region on December 7 made history when for the first time in Ghana's emerging democratic dispensation the electorate dumped its pet NDC, and rather voted massively for the NPP in both the Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Speaking to THE SUN from Tatale, a leading traditional ruler who pleaded anonymity said even though the constituency had over the years thrown its entire weight behind NDC, the Party has woefully failed to recognize them as far as development was concerned.

He said within the last eight years of NPP administration, the district has been transformed and has seen much change in terms of development than the combined periods of the PNDC/NDC.

"It would have been disaster to vote for the NDC when they have turned deaf to our please", he told THE SUN with pride last week.

The chief recalled how Ex-president JJ Rawlings openly attacked the former NDC MP of the area Mr. John Jageri at an NDC rally at Tatale in 1996, blamed him for the lack of development in the Constituency.

Having weighed both Parties, the people had no option than to vote NPP's John Binnam, and former deputy Minister of state as their MP”, the chief said satisfyingly.

There are three main ethnic groups in the district and these are the Dagombas, Konkombas and Bassares. Smaller groups like the Hausas, Battors, Kotokolis, Kabres and Fulanis also live there.
