An attempt by the New Patriotic Party's parliamentary candidate for Adentan Constituency, Akosua Manu, to question the viability of John Dramani Mahama's 24-hour economy promise has been met with vile attacks by some members and supporters of the National Democratic Congress, including prominent member Yayra Koku.
Akosua Manu, in a social media post, suggested that the 24-hour economy could adversely deepen the woes of Ghanaian workers as jobs and remunerations will now be staggered on a three-shift system instead of the one-shift that she believes exists in the country currently.
In her view, the NDC and John Mahama were not being candid with Ghanaians about how the implementation of the policy could impoverish Ghanaian workers.
"According to the umbrella gang's shift system, there are infinite possibilities when it comes to the hours you can do. They fail to add, I however believe it's intentional, what you can earn.
"For example, if your salary is 1500 cedis and you now have to share with 2 others, your take-home will be how much?" she quizzed.
In a strongly-worded response on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Yayra Koku chided Akosua Manu for exhibiting what she believes to be ignorance on the 24-hour economy module.
Koku, who is the Deputy Director of IT for the NDC, wondered why a person of Akosua Manu's standing, who is seeking to enter Parliament, would reason like that.
"I assumed Abronye and Wontumi were the only reckless and ignorant members of the NPP, but I had no idea this one, who aspires to be an MP, is worse than Abronye and Wontumi combined.
"How can an educated person think like this? That with the 24-hour economy people will share salaries. Such foolish thinking. The 24-hour economy is really hurting them and they will continue to expose their ignorance and foolishness."
