The Deputy Minister of Information in charge of Policy Communication, Nana Dokua Asiamah Adjei has chided the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on its position about a statement made earlier by Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo-Marfo about galamsey queen, Aisha Huang.

Mr Osafo-Marfo during a town hall meeting in the USA said jailing the Chinese lady who had flouted the laws of the country by engaging in illegal mining and other crimes would not solve Ghana’s economic challenges.

Just after the minister’s statement, the opposition NDC and most Ghanaians have lashed Mr Osafo Marfo who they say is seeking to confirm government’s lukewarm attitude in fighting illegal mining in the country.

The government of Ghana has however come out to dissociate itself from the minister’s “irresponsible” statement.

But speaking in an interview with GBC’s Behind the New Programme Thursday monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Nana Dokua Asiamah Adjei reprimanded the NDC saying they have no moral right to criticize the government and its ministers on the fight against illegal mining.

“For me the NDC has no moral right to condemn anything about the fight against galamsey because they were not able to list even a pin towards that kind of fight”, she noted

According to her, the NDC has been in government for eight years but Ghanaians never really saw any upfront charge taken to cure the menace of illegal mining.

“If this illegal mining had been allowed to go on, from the way it was going on right from 2015, I’m sure a lot of our situation would have been a lot worse. It took a visionary leadership of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo- Addo to be able to put his presidency on the line. He is preparing the country for the next generation and not himself for the next election. So he took a step that several presidents were not able to”. She stressed
