How do you suddenly develop ‘toothache’ when NPP is in power – Mahama asks critics

Former President John Dramani Mahama definitely had a batch of questions to pose to critics and opponents during his tour to the Volta Region.

Especially after many of them condemned his ‘boot for boot’ comments and called for an apology.

After justifying his comments about fighting back if the NPP tried anymore of its ‘intimidation tactics’, Mr. Mahama sought to find out why some opinion leaders and civil organisations, though make it a constant responsibility to castigate the NDC and especially his administration, suddenly lose their voices and develop toothache when the NPP assumes office.

It baffled him how that he (Mahama) was being asked to apologise over defensive comments he made about recent clashes at the La Bawaleshie polling center during the Ayawaso by-elections when the actual perpetrators behind the violence as well as their ‘motivators’ are let loose and not the least scolded.

“Just two years in office and look at what the NPP is doing, we all saw what happened in Ayawaso West Wuogon; violence unprecedented in this country. We’ve held by-elections in many places and this is the first time organized hoodlums put in uniform with masked faces carry AK47’s”, he stated.

“A simple civilian by-election and they go and discharge weapons and 8 people are injured, all of them from gun-shot wounds, one of them very badly, in his leg, it shattered the bone completely, he is still in 37 hospital and yet being the victim, when I talk, civil society, they say I should apologise?”

“Those who sent the hoodlums to go and disrupt the by-elections, you can’t say anything against them? There are many people who find their voices only when NDC is in power, when things happen, they are the first to make a lot of noise but when NPP is in power, we see the worst atrocities and yet they are quiet, it’s like they’ve suddenly developed toothache”, he added.

He however lauded the Christian council, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for remaining professional and non-partisan in the dispensation of their duties regardless of which party is in power or which opposition they face.

“I salute the National Catholic Secretariat, Rev Opuni-Frimpong, and the UNDP. They have shown that it doesn't matter who is in power, what is wrong is wrong".

Mahama, who was preaching peace during his campaign tour at North Tongu asked his party supporters to be on guard, and be ready to defend Ghana’s democratic system.

"We are for peace but to enjoy peace, you must be vigilant and alert. We must defend our democracy because this is the ‘all-die be die’ philosophy at work and we won’t accept it", Mahama said.
