People attend school for various reasons. Some go to pursue a dream career or to travel abroad, depending on their location.
While some are fortunate enough to have financial support, others are not afforded the same opportunity for education.
One such individual is Mohammed Abdul Nasir, a butcher in Accra, specifically at the Agbogbloshie Market, who could not follow his dream career and had to quit school because his father could not afford his education.
Speaking on GhanaWeb TV's Everyday People programme, Mohammed shared that he aspired to become a soldier while in school.
He worked hard towards this goal but eventually had to leave school and move to the city to find a job. This job would not only help him stand on his own feet but also support his siblings.
"At the time I was in school, my father didn't have the means to support my education, which is why I left the north to come here and do what I currently do, the butchering job. I wanted to be a soldier. At that time, I was really striving to achieve that goal, but my father didn't have the financial resources to help me continue school, and that's why I moved to the city to work," he explained in Twi.
When asked about his mother's whereabouts at the time, Mohammed said, "My mother was there, but she was unemployed. However, since I came here, things have gotten somewhat better."
Regarding his education, Mohammed stated that he completed up to Form 4 and could not continue further until he moved to the city at the age of 25.
