Former Minister of Information, Nana Akomea has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for demanding an independent forensic audit of the 2024 provisional voters register.

Akomea, who described the demand as 'rude' explained that the NDC's demand suggests a lack of trust in the election management body to handle the matter impartially.

In an interview on Good Morning Ghana on Accra-based Metro TV monitored by GhanaWeb on Friday, September 20, 2024, the STC boss questioned why the NDC had still not submitted evidence of the discrepancies it had identified to the EC.

"The NDC fundamentally is saying that it has identified 243,000 transfers that are illegal, they found 15,000 unidentified transferred paths. Now provide the evidence so that all of us can follow. When the NPP made similar calls, we had a press conference addressed by Dr. Bawumia with graphs and figures.

Nana Akomea emphasised that forensic audits are usually carried out to uncover criminal activity.

"You say you have identified 243,000 illegal transfers and on the basis of your beliefs there should be an independent forensic audit. Forensic audit means there has been criminal activity that has to be discovered by an audit. Then you have named the auditor.

"...They said the audit would be sponsored by UNDP and that forensic audit should be done by an independent body. So, they are asking the EC to go and undertake a certain activity, and that activity should be done by another independent body how rude?" he quizzed.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the NDC embarked on a nationwide protest dubbed 'Enough Is Enough' Demo against the Electoral Commission to demand an independent forensic audit of the provisional voter register ahead of the 2024 general elections.
