Huge tree collapses on motor tricycle at Kumasi Racecourse Market, one critically injured

A tricycle rider is battling for his life after a huge tree collapsed on him at Racecourse Market in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.

The victim, believed to be in his early 30s, reportedly suffered a serious injury to his spine following the incident.

Some eyewitnesses, in an interview with OTEC News reporters Maame Akua Asarebea and Solomon Nimo, said the tree collapsed in the early hours of Thursday, May 23, 2024.

They added that the victim is currently at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, receiving treatment.

"The tree had been weakened for three days now after a long vehicle truck crashed into it. We tried our best to get the attention of authorities at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to help cut it down, but all our efforts proved futile," one trader, Kwaku Yeboah, told OTEC News.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), however, rushed to the scene after the incident to clear it from the area.
