Human dev't and good governance to move Ghana - JAK

Accra, Feb. 3, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday said Ghana would speedily develop in the next four years through the execution of strategies formulated under Human Resource and Private Sector Development and Good Governance.

Unveiling his agenda in his State of the Nation Address to Parliament, President Kufuor said the macro-economic successes chalked in the past four years had laid a sturdy foundation for the nation's progress through his three-pronged strategy.

"Most sincere and observant Ghanaians will confirm that Positive Change Chapter One has been a Success.

"For the next four years this nation will develop rapidly, driven by the three-pronged approach strategy of Human Resource Development, Private Sector Development and Good Governance in Positive Change Chapter Two. Our Success, Mr Speaker, will result in the creation of a just, humane and prosperous nation for all."

President Kufuor, therefore, urged Ghanaians, particularly those in the Legislature, to play their roles well to ensure the realisation of the vision.

A cross-section of the society, including representatives of public institutions, civil society groups, the Diplomatic Community and Traditional Councils were in the House to have a first-hand knowledge of the one-hour address, delivered to the First Session of the Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

Explaining the components of the three-prong strategy, President Kufuor said Human Resource Development would focus on improving education, health and sports to build a positive character, capacity and attitude towards the building of a modern state.

On Private Sector Development, President Kufuor said the State would promote and sponsor training programmes, funding schemes and entrepreneurial activities for participants in this sector, particularly those who operated at small-scale levels.

He said Right to Information and Whistle Blowers Bills would be passed to promote Good Governance both home and abroad.

On relations with her neighbours, President Kufuor said Ghana would continue with its Good Neighbourliness Policy.
