Humanist Movement extends non-violence campaign to Ghana

Accra, Sept. 12, GNA - The Humanist Movement, an organization that advocates changes in society through non-violent activities, is in Ghana in furtherance of its non-violence campaign.

Members from Spain have undertaken one-on-one discussions with people in several parts of the country to encourage and motivate Ghanaians to join the movement, which also has the objective of promoting the human being as most important on earth.

Mr Pablo De Pedao, member of the movement, told the GNA that violence was created in the society when people placed money, beauty, political power, among other things, as their priority in life rather than the human being.

He explained that it was because people placed money before any other thing in life that a person could murder just to gain money or fame.

"We reject all other forms of violence, not only physical violence, but all other forms of economic, racial, sexual, moral and psychological violence which we believe cause daily conflict in our societies." He noted that non-violence in society made the human being as the most important and central element in life. "The Humanist Movement places the human being as the central value. Nothing is above the human being and no human being is above the other," Mr De Pedao, said and pointed out that equal rights before the law gave way to a world where there were equal opportunities for all. He said the Movement condemned discrimination whether motivated by economic, racial, ethnic or cultural differences while affirming freedom of ideas and beliefs. Mr De Pedao called on Ghanaians to join the movement in their locality and mentioned Tabora, Dansoman, Darkuman, Kwashiman, Adabraka, all in Accra and some areas in Kumasi as places where branches have been established. 12 Sept. 07
