Hundreds show up for ‘kum yen preko’ demonstration

Dozens of people have thronged the streets of Accra today in support of the ‘Kum yen preko’ march organized by the Coalition for Social Justice, ABC News can report.

The demonstration is against what they describe as hardship, insecurity and oppression experienced under the current Akufo-Addo administration. Many of the protesters were seen clad in red, with placards bearing different messages up in the air to send off a strong signal about their displeasure.

The march, which is currently ongoing started from Obra spot in circle and saw in attendance the Chairman and General secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), MP for North Tongu Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Nana Oye Lithur, lead organizer for the demostration; Bernard Mornah among others.

Former President, John Dramani Mahama, also declared support for the march. According to him, the cost of living in the country has become unbearable, with heightened state of insecurity among the reasons for which he believes the protest is necessary.

Our country is on the downward trend, with an unbearable increase in the cost of living; the citizenry doesn’t feel safe and yet Government continues to oppress and intimidate the people including journalists.



This state of affairs is a threat to our democracy especially as the moral society remain unconcerned and surprisingly silent on the developments in our country, Ghana.

I welcome, endorse and I encourage all to step out tomorrow and join the #Kumy3npr3ko demonstration organized by the Coalition for Social Justice.

There is a lot of pent-up anger among Ghanaians and it’s beginning to manifest even among the security services. This manifestation gives all the allied groups participating in it, the opportunity to vent.

It is in our country’s interest that we speak out and demonstrate our disapproval of the Akufo-Addo style of leadership, which has visited unprecedented hardships on Ghanaians.
