Accra, Dec. 6, GNA - Hundreds of supporters on Monday thronged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Headquarters in Accra to hike a lift home to vote in Election 2004.

Most of the people were in party tee shirts and paraphernalia and had their bags tucked at the backs seemingly ready to board the next available bus anytime.

"They had come in their numbers since yesterday. I saw a number of buses leave the area yesterday and this morning," Mrs Mary Mensah, who lives in the neighbourhood (Kokomlemle), said.

"The neighbourhood has seen a lot of activities. Although, there has been some discomfort, it is fun seeing young people so anxious to participate in such a historic event like the 2004 General Election." Mr Kwadwo Afari, Public Relations Officer, said a lot of people had entered the Party's compound since Sunday.

He said the NPP had to rely on some of its supporters and friends to transport them to their various constituencies.

"We are not offering anyone money. We are just arranging transport to help them exercise their franchise."

Many of them were Kumasi-bound while a few were hoping to get to Cape Coast and Takoradi before sunset and rest for Election Day. "We have been possessed by the election spirit. We are moving up country to make Positive Change Chapter Two a reality," Ms Afia Sarpong, an NPP faithful, said.
