Hunter mistakes brother for game and kills him

Ajumako (C/R), June 23, GNA - A 25-year-old farmer, Kojo Blankson, who went to pick snails from the wild, on Tuesday, was shot to death by his elder brother, Yaw Odoom, who said he mistook him for a game. The District Police Commander, ASP Seth Tay, told the GNA that, the brothers lived in the same house, at Enyan Abowinmu, in the Ajumaku-Enyan-Essiam District of the Central Region.

On the midnight of June 22, they departed together for their respect ive expeditions but the incident happened at about 0100 hours.

ASP Seth Tay described the scene of the incident as "horrible" and said the body had been deposited at the Cape Coast Hospital Mortuary, while the suspect, Odoom, 29, is in Police custody at Ajumako. He said it was a pathetic situation, which could have been avoided with carefulness.

The Commander, therefore, advised hunters to be extra careful and cautious in their search for game so that they do not sacrifice human life for bush meat.

He said hunters should not shoot their targets until they had clearl y seen their images and identified them. ASP Tay reminded all persons in possession of guns to register them with the Police, as required by law, and also renew their licenses and permits annually. Defaulters, he warned, would not be spared.
