Hunter remanded for murder

Mankranso (Ash), Jan 27, GNA- A hunter who mistook a farmer for a deer and shot him at Dunyan Nkwanta in the Ahafo Ano South district has been remanded into prison custody for murder by the Mankranso magistrate court.

Samuel Mensah 38, plea was not taken and will re-appear before the court on February 20, this year.

Police Inspector Abraham Agyei Mensah, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie, that, both the accused and Stephen Adubofour, alias Atta kakra, the deceased, were residents of the town.

He said at about 8:30 am on the New Year day, the deceased went to farm and did not return so a search party was organised and his body was found under a cocoa tree in his farm.

The prosecutor said a report was made to the police who visited the scene and arrested two persons as part of their investigations. He said in the course of the investigations, the accused who had then fled the town to Juaso in the Asante Akim South district, confessed to a relative that he had killed Kakra.

The accused therefore reported himself to the Juaso police and was arrested and transferred to Mankranso. According to the prosecution the accused wrote in his cautioned statement that he mistook the deceased for a deer and shot at it.
