Husband helping police in investigation into wife's death

Koforidua, Jan. 13, GNA - A thirty-five-year-old man, Kwame Joseph, who attempted to commit suicide is helping the Koforidua Police over the alleged murder of his 46-year-old fianc=E9e at Aberewa Nkwanta, a suburb of Koforidua.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, on Thursday, the Koforidua Municipal Police Commander, Chief Superintendent A.M. Sumaila, said on January 11, this year, one Kofi Gyasi, who was returning home from his farm at about 19 hours, found the suspect by the roadside attempting to commit suicide with a cutlass.

He said Gyasi went to the rescue and recognising him as a close neighbour, managed to send Joseph home to his house and while ushering him into his room, he found to his horror that the deceased, Akua Apomane, was lying dead in a pool of blood.

Mr Sumaila said Gyasi managed to send the suspect to report to the Effiduase Police Station and a police search in his room led to the discovery of a pair of blood stained scissors concealed in the ceiling of the room.

Chief Supt. Sumaila said investigations conducted by the police revealed that on January 9, a quarrel ensued between the couple over the fetching of water during which the wife was severely assaulted.

He said Apomane who became sick as a result, reported for medical treatment the following day where she was treated and discharged. According to Mr Sumaila, the deceased who hailed from the North left behind five children from a previous marriage.
