The Ashanti Region Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress is accusing the opposition New Patriotic Party of hypocrisy and double standards for attending an Inter Party Advisory Committee in Kumasi.
Joseph Yamin said he was surprised NPP officials attended a meeting organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) at a time they have publicly stated they will not take part in anything organised by the EC.
The New Patriotic Party has boycotted two separate bye-elections claiming it cannot trust the EC to organise a fair election.
The party is also at the Supreme Court challenging the results of the 2012 elections declared by the EC.
But the NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman Frederick Fredua Antoh attended the IPAC meeting organised and chaired by the EC boss, Dr Afari Gyan to explore challenges in the 2012 election.
Yamin said he was surprised to see the NPP chair at the IPAC meeting despite the positions taken by the party against the EC.
He told Joy News the action may also mean that the NPP has accepted it was wrong in taking the actions it took in the past and was taking steps to remedy them.
A representative of the GCPP also accused the NPP of double standards.
But the NPP Secretary Samuel Payne told Joy News the attacks on NPP are needless.
He said the NPP needed to know what was going on with the EC and the other parties and therefore had to take part in the meeting.
He is surprised at the criticisms from the NDC and the GCPP.
