Ghana’s High Commissioner to Canada, Samuel Odoi Sykes has denied suffering a stroke. The Ambassador told JOY FM that the rumour initiated by the Ghana Palaver newspaper is a malicious fabrication with political undertones and must be disregarded with contempt.
According to Tuesday’s edition of the Ghana Palaver, Mr Sykes who is the immediate past National Chairman of the ruling NPP suffered a partial stroke and had been quietly flown back to Ghana. But speaking to JOY FM from his Ottawa residence, the High Commissioner insisted that he had not been stricken and immobilized by any disease.
''I’ve not suffered a stroke, I don’t understand. I mean this rumour was going around some months back. My daughter called me, my nephew called me to find out what was happening. I came to Ghana in November. I spent one month and left in December, it’s been five months now and nothing has happened to me'', he added.
Mr Sykes explained however that he’s getting medical attention and check-ups for a prostate cancer condition induced by old age. He also denied having been flown quietly into Ghana as a result of the alleged stroke and attributed the rumours to mischievous political opponents bent on embarrassing the government.
