I advised President Mahama to keep calm on the death of his nephew - Bukom Banku

In the midst of the brouhaha surrounding the demise of Captain Maxwell Mahama, Popular boxer Braimah Kamako, aka Bukom Banku has said that he advised Ex-President John Dramani Mahama to refrain from commenting on the issue.

According to him, he phoned the ex-President after news broke on the dastardly lynching of his nephew by a mob and advised him to keep calm and commit the pain of his loss to God to avert further aggravations.

“Last time I called John Mahama that I dey beg him, he should not talk anything about this issue, he should leave everything by God”, he explained.

The ex-President confirmed his relations with the deceased in some tweets and a message to the family when he visited to mourn with them. Captain Mahama was a nephew of former President John Mahama who is brother to the deceased soldiers’s father, Captain (Rtd) Chubby Adam Mahama

Speaking on the issue, Bukom Banku condemned the attack and described it as an unfair act purported by the mob. He added that attempt by the military to avenge the death of one of their own will only result in further destruction and loss of lives.

He therefore pleaded that the army and its officials calm tempers and handle the issue professionally.

“I want to beg the soldiers because Ghanaian soldiers are strong, powerful and crazy, if they say they will follow these people, they can kill all of them, so myself, I dey beg the soldiers people to forget these people to let them bury their dead”, he said.

Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched on Monday May 29 in Denkyira-Boase by a mob who mistook him for an armed robber.

According to reports, Captain Mahama who stopped by some traders to purchase some items including some snails revealed a pistol he had on him while reaching his pocket for money to pay for the items.

The traders upon seeing the weapon phoned the assemblyman to alert him and he in turn organized a group of persons to pursue the captain without any investigations to verify the claims.

Captain Mahama was on assignment as commander of a military detachment to fight illegal mining. Monday marks one-week celebration of his untimely and painful murder.

He left behind a wife and two children. President Akufo-Addo has outlined a series of activities to be done for the late hero as part of efforts to honor him and give him a befitting burial.
