The Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated his commitment to the fight against corruption, which he identifies as a major obstacle to national development.

While interacting with the clergy in Cape Coast on Monday, June 3 as part of his campaign tour of the Central Region, Dr. Bawumia pledged to remain steadfast in his efforts against corruption, emphasizing that his dedication is evidenced by his achievements in combating corruption through digitalization.

"Corruption in the public space is a significant barrier to our development, and the battle against it must persist. I have been, and continue to be, a dedicated combatant against corruption," Dr. Bawumia stated.

He also pointed out that corruption can be effectively combated by implementing robust systems to prevent it, rather than merely paying lip service to the cause.

"Effective systems are the key to fighting corruption, and I have been instrumental in developing digital systems designed to prevent corruption," he explained.

"The elimination of ghost names from the public payroll is a testament to how well-designed systems can combat corruption."

Dr. Bawumia further assured the clergy that, should he become President, he would be more accountable to them, as he would need to report back to the Ghanaian people on his governance and seek re-election.

"As President, God willing, I will be more accountable to you because I will have the chance to seek another term. I will then return to you and the Ghanaian people to account for my stewardship," he declared.

"If I fail to perform, you will not grant me another opportunity, so I will work diligently and fulfil my promises, enabling me to report back to you."

He concluded with a humorous remark, "As for someone else, there will be no accountability because they will go on a honeymoon, and you won't see them again," eliciting laughter from the clergy members.
