Member of Parliament (MP) for Asawase Constituency Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has stated that he is not acting contrary to any law if he organises his own vigilante groups to attack New Patriotic Party (NPP) rioters in his constituency.

According to him, he is not acting irresponsibly by inciting his constituents to defend themselves from violent attacks from purported NPP members.

Speaking on Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, an aggrieved lawmaker warned that they cannot allow the police to sit aloof whiles they are being intimidated and that they will soon release their thugs.

‘It is very responsible for me to incite my people, we are acting very responsibly. Defending ourselves is the most responsible thing to do. I am minority chief whip in Parliament and so what, are we not all human beings?. My brother put yourself in our shoes, the police only tell us they will follow up anytime we make reports, for how long can we continue reporting to the police and nothing being done for the past two weeks, defending ourselves is part of the law, if you call this incitement yes, we will not wait before they kill somebody before they start responding, we have no option than to defend ourselves,’he warned.

He said its not being inciting people but rather defending themselves questioning why the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has kept mute about the whole hooliganism and vandalism ongoing in parts of the country.

Alhaji Muntaka observed that some NPP supporters have gone on state installations and government seizure spree in the constituency.

He believes the arrest would deter others from committing further violence.

‘Asked the police when they made the arrest, since when did they make the arrest…if they wanted to ensure security and protection of all citizens they would have made arrests, we reported when they went to the district assembly office, terrorising people at the market, Sawaba to lock an ICT center, locking up schools, if they had taken the suspects to court we wouldn’t have issued threats, why are they not doing it.

All of the complaints we have made to the Asawase police station, why have you not been able to make arrest. They should be up and doing, they are not acting,’ he fumed.

He said the police would be blamed for acting irresponsibly when there is chaos in the constituency.
