Alexander Afenyo Markin, lawyer and Member of Parliament for Effutu
Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin lawyer and Member of Parliament for Effutu, has filed a defamatory lawsuit at the Accra High Court against a Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) Alhassan Salifu Bawa and the online media Modern Ghana.
According to the lawmaker, articles published about him on the news outlet are untrue and vindictive, aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
He said these articles, since they were published may cause him to lose clients, both home and abroad.
“Since the publications plaintiff has been confronted with the danger of losing his clients both in Ghana and outside and his jurisdiction, as the publications question his honesty, trustworthiness and credibility; which are the attributes of a good lawyer.”
Lawyer Afenyo-Markin also mentioned that his opponent crony behind the publications, intend to cause hatred and disfavor within his constituents in the upcoming NPP Parliamentary Primaries.
“Plaintiff avers that the 2nd defendant, who is campaigning for an opponent in the upcoming parliamentary elections of the NPP has resorted to publishing false and malicious articles calculated to injure his reputation of the plaintiff and also to expose him to hatred and disfavor with his constituents.
Plaintiff will say that he has a daunting task of winning back the trust of his constituents as a result of the defamatory publications.”
In responding to the allegations leveled against him in the articles, the MP disassociates himself from suggestions that he is a person who practices voodism as well as a thief.
He, however, calls on the Defendant as its been established in the Writ of Summons, to pull down the story and render and an unqualified apology to him as the contents in those articles are untrue and uncalled for.
“Plaintiff avers that as at the time of filing the instant Writ of Summons, the Defendant, had published twelve (12) defamatory articles about him, but contents of the articles are untrue, deliberate, malicious, vindictive, unfair and uncalled for.”
