I commend Prez. Mills for arresting prime suspect in MV Benjamin case – Kofi Wayo
Leader and founder of the United Renaissance Party(URP), Charles Kofi Wayo has commended the president Mills led administration for the efforts it is making to establish the truth in the MV Benjamin and the disappearance of 77 parcels of cocaine scandal.
A prime suspect in the case, Christian Asem Darkeh, alias the limping man who went into hiding after his name came up in the case was arrested by the security agencies.
He has subsequently been charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit crime, importation/exportation of narcotic drugs, to wit cocaine, and possession of narcotic drugs, to wit cocaine.
This new development according to Kofi Wayo is a significant breakthrough for the government to find the elements behind the disappearance of 77 parcels of cocaine.
‘’ I will like to congratulate the NDC government for the arrest of this guy. We know that they were covering him up. There are elements in society who covered this people up. The arrest of this guy, if our security forces are well trained and they interrogate this guy properly, a lot of guys from parliament will fall, some ex-ministers will be brought to justice and all of that.’’
‘’The biggest thing about the arrest is that Mills is showing the world that he does tolerate the narcotic trade like the NPP. I know that former president Kufour and Nana Akuffo Addo tolerated the drug trade when they were in power,’’Kofi Wayo said.
‘’So this a significant breakthrough for the Atta Mills government as far as this cocaine thing is concerned.’’
He has however advised the security agencies to take their time to question Asem Darkeh to gather evidence to prosecute the case.
‘’This a major, major event for the Atta Mills government and we should all see that something is happening.’’
‘’My expectation is that we will get professionals to question this guy and we will see how many heads will roll.’’
Editor of the Herald newspaper, Larry Alans Dogbe who followed the Georgina Wood committee settings is not surprised that the prime suspect has been arrested but caution government to be vigilant in the handeling of the case.
A socio political commentator, colonel Flood, was full of praise for president Mills but also appealed to the vice president, John Dramani Mahama who happens to be the chairman of the police council to caution both the IGP and the director of police CID to handle the case with outmost care.
