A stalwart of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof Kwamena Ahwoi, has taken a swipe at the host of Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Daniel Dadzie.

While speaking on the upcoming referendums and whether Ghanaians should vote 'Yes or No' among other issues, the presenter asked questions which according to Prof. Ahwoi were based on assumptions rather than facts.

The host, Daniel Dadzie, asked if Prof. Ahwoi would agree to the referendum if concerns raised are addressed, but the NDC stalwart told the presenter his questions were uncalled for since he had already answered them.

“I don’t want to answer hypothetical questions, many of the questions you are asking are hypothetical,” he said.

Professor Ahwoi on November 12 raised concerns indicating how Ghana might end up like the UK with their Brexit situation.

“We have to avoid a Brexit situation. When we rush into a referendum, ‘Yes’ and ‘No’, then suddenly we are confronted with all these issues that we have not thought through,” he said.

The Brexit situation that Prof Ahwoi is warning against refers to the UK referendum in June 2016 to decide whether the UK should leave or remain in the European Union (EU).

Although ‘Leave’ won by 52% to 48%, a March 2019 deadline (the original deadline) for Britain to exit the EU was missed.

Several deadlines have also been missed because UK parliamentarians have failed to pass different Brexit deals with the EU into law – three years after British citizens voted to leave the EU.

Countering a government-backed ‘Yes’ campaign on Top Story, Mr Ahwoi said the NDC’s position is that the bill that will enable political party participation in the election of MMDCEs should be withdrawn.
