I don’t have time to challenge EC in court – Akua Donkor

The Flag bearer of the Ghana Freedom Party, (GFP) Madam Akua Donkor has said she is not interested in litigating her disqualification from the 2016 elections in court.

The Electoral Commission (EC) on Monday announced a list of Presidential Candidates who have been cleared to contest the December polls and those who failed.

At the close of filing nominations for Presidential candidates, the EC approved the candidature of President John Mahama who’s the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Flag bearers, Nana Akufo Addo, who’s Flagbearer for largest opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Ivor Greenstreet of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and the Joseph Osei Yeboah (JOY) an Independent Candidate to contest in the elections.

A total of 12 political parties including the Ghana Freedom Party were disqualified based on different reasons.

In the case of GFP, the Commission gave reasons for Akua Donkor’s disqualification including the fact that her form was improperly filled.

The Consent to candidacy by the candidate and Vice president nominee were not signed.

Residential addresses and polling station details of several subscribers were not provided (pages 68, 79, 80, 81,82, 83, 84). Same signatures with different names (Pages 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53, 54,55, 56, 57, 58 & 59)

Vice Presidential candidate not qualified on basis of provided date of birth of October 15, 1998. The details of the vice presidential candidate were also omitted on the personal record form.

The candidate’s Statutory Declaration was incomplete.

While parties such as the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Progressive Peoples Party (PPP) and the National Democratic Party (NDP) have served notice of going to court to challenge their disqualification, Madam Akua Donkor in an interview on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa FM Tuesday stated that she’ll be wasting her time if she proceeds to court.

“I don’t have any issues with the EC over my disqualification so why should I go to court. That will be a waste of time. If I have been disqualified so be it. She has said due to some anomalies on our nomination forms, we could be prosecuted…well she can go ahead and have me prosecuted. I’m okay with that.”
