I faced resistance during UPSA transformation – Alabi

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) Professor Joshua Alabi has revealed that he faced resistance during the transformation of the institution.

“Ofcourse when you are transforming a system, you would meet opposition, I don’t seriously call it opposition, I call it resistance. A resistance is normal...but if you are able to bring down your policies to them, your targets that you want to achieve, your mission, your vision and then they buy into this then they begin to understand you.

“So ofcourse you would have lecturers resisting, students resisting but you must be strong and resolute,” the economist told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday.

Prof. Joshua Alabi has been noted for his transformational leadership since the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS) was awarded the presidential charter to become a university in September 2008.

He has since led the transformation of IPS into the 'fastest growing public university,' in Ghana today, as UPSA is popularly referred to.

The father of two and former Member of Parliament for the Krowor Constituency in the Greater Accra region from 1997 to 2000 said UPSA now has a student population of more than 11, 000 students.

Prof. Alabi was born on 1st March, 1958. He is currently the Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA). He is an Economist by training and a Marketer by Profession.

He is an Associate Professor in Marketing and a graduate of two prestigious Institutions - MSc. in Industrial Economics, 1986 from Moscow Institute of National Economy and an MSc. in International Marketing from the Strachylide University (1992) where he graduated and won the Mashod Abiola Prize in Marketing.
