'I have no hand in Laboma demolition' - La Shikitele

La Shikitele, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, has denied responsibility for the demolition of structures at the Laboma Beach Resort, insisting that the action followed repeated warnings to the resort’s management to stop developments within the Kpeshie Lagoon buffer zone.

Speaking at a town hall meeting in La on September 20, 2026, Nii Adjei Koofeh IV rejected claims that he personally ordered the demolition or was responsible for the destruction of businesses and investments at the resort.

He said the claims were an attempt to shift attention from what he described as the management’s repeated disregard for directives from the relevant authorities.

According to him, the resort’s management had been cautioned several times against developing structures within the Kpeshie Lagoon buffer zone but continued construction despite the warnings.

He said both the former and current Greater Accra Regional Ministers had instructed the management to stop the developments.

“The former regional minister, two years ago, told them. The current regional minister told them to stop. They didn't do it,” he said.

Nii Adjei Koofeh IV further claimed that authorities had issued notices to the resort, including a directive giving the management 21 days to comply.

However, he alleged that construction continued throughout the period.

“They were building every day. So if you've shown this sort of gross disrespect, and the law has caught up with you, why should you blame me?” he asked.

He maintained that he had no involvement in the demolition and urged vendors and business owners affected by the exercise not to direct their grievances at him.

“I have no hand in what went on,” he said, adding that the evidence presented at the town hall meeting supported his position.

The La Shikitele also disputed claims surrounding the ownership of the land on which some of the affected businesses had been operating.

He alleged that some persons had been sold land by the operators of the resort even though, according to him, the sellers did not have ownership rights over the land.

“The people do not own land. So if they've sold land that doesn't belong to them to you, they've defrauded you,” he alleged.

He said persons who had acquired land from the operators should therefore direct their concerns to those who sold the land to them.

Nii Adjei Koofeh IV described the developments as unlawful and said the appropriate legal processes should be followed.

The demolition at the Laboma Beach Resort has generated concerns among some businesses and vendors operating at the facility, with affected persons raising questions about the impact of the exercise on their investments.

Nii Adjei Koofeh IV, however, maintained that responsibility for the demolition should not be placed on him, arguing that the action followed the resort management’s alleged failure to comply with repeated directives from the authorities.
