Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and National Democratic Congress Flagbearer hopeful, Alban Bagbin has stated his intention ahead of campaigns by the various party candidates.

Addressing a group of journalists at his residence during an open forum, Mr. Bagbin noted that there was assertion that former President Mahama was in poll position to win the flagbearership; something he debunked explaining that the latter seem to have all the following because he is the outgone President of the country.

He averred that together with his team, they are focused on catching up with overtaking him without using politics of insult.

“…as you know he (Mahama) started with all of us behind him and we have left now and he’s having some great…. So we need to catch up and overtake him. And that’s what we’re poised to do, that’s what we’ll be focused to do.

In my letter to the headquarters; the general secretary, I made it clear that we’re not going to play any politics of insults or attacks. We’re going to be decent, mature, we want to share what we believe is the right information for the delegates to take the right decision for us to be able to recover and reconstruct our party to focus on its core values and principles…” he stated.

The Member of Parliament for Nadowli West formally introduced former Minister of Information, Fritz Baffour, as his Director of Campaign and Communication.

Mr. Baffour debunked reports that he had rejected former President Mahama and picked Mr. Bagbin stating that he was not in his camp to begin with and that he had a mutual friendship with the former President on party levels and as an appointee during the Atta Mills administration.

According to him, his endorsement was not based on malice, adding that Mr Bagbin truly upholds the principles of the NDC, hence his decision to support him.

“At a certain time, I said I was not ready to support anybody and I have now made my choice and my choice is A.S.K. Bagbin,” he emphasised.
