I’ll destroy my academic certificates if corrupt NDC appointees aren’t jailed - Kusi Boafo

The office of Special Prosecutor received presidential assent a few days ago and is expected to be used as one of the processes in dealing with corrupt practices in the public sector under the current administration.

Even before the Independent Special Prosecutor is nominated, goes through vetting and sworn into office, there are already calls for the prosecution of officials under the immediate past National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration perceived to have engaged in shady deals.

Former Economics Lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University and Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms, Thomas Kusi Boafo has threatened to tear his academic certificates if the President fails to prosecute and jail past NDC appointees found to be corrupt.

“I have told President Akufo-Addo point blank due to what I have seen with my naked eyes that if people are not jailed for looting from the state I will campaign against him. I will also tear my academic certificates if he fails to do so,” he stated.

A levid Kusi Boafo said the level of thievery that the country witnessed during the immediate past NDC regime was unprecedented and gargantuan warning that if those involved in such criminal acts are not punished it will embolden incumbent appointees to do same.

But General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia has described the office of the Independent Special Prosecutor as a witch-hunting instrument if its sole aim is to hunt only past appointees alleged have engaged in corrupt deals.

“Corruption has no political colours but if you think the Special Prosecutor is meant for only NDC members who are corrupt then it is a witch-hunting instrument”, he revealed on Okay FM.

He lauded the establishment of the office of the Special Prosecutor to deal with corrupt acts in the country but cautioned against the undermining of its legitimacy by some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) with the view that it is meant to prosecute only NDC functionaries.

“Those with that view are the very persons undermining the legitimacy of the office. It is easy for anyone to say it is a witch-hunting instrument. The Special Prosecutor is not going to work in the mortuary but deal with corrupt acts which are still happening as we speak so he should also focus on that”, he said.
