As Ghanaians continue to contemplate on the one person within the top brass of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who would be fit to fill the vice presidential candidate vacuum, its General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has said he cannot turn down such a juicy offer, MyNewsGh.com reports.

He would certainly not think twice before accepting the role.

“Who would say no to an offer to become a king; that would even be a disservice to the people because it would mean I don’t want to see the progress of the party”, he said on Kumasi-based Angel FM in an interview monitored by this portal.

‘General Mosquito’ who touts his long service to the opposition party says choosing him as Mr John Dramani Mahama’s running mate for the 2020 elections would not be out of place because he fits perfectly in.

He however says the decision remains entirely that of the leadership of the party upon consultations with other stakeholders, but has urged all those that are advocating for him to keep it up.

Several names have been speculated to be on the radar of the former president to be considered for the position of his running mate as he laces his boots to embark on a “rescue mission” to save Ghana from the “bad governance of President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)”.

Former CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation; Alex Mould, former Education Minister; Prof Jane Nana Opoku Agyemang, Former Finance Minister; Seth Terkper, MP for Asunafo South and former Brong Ahafo Regional Minister; Eric Opoku, and Dr Johnson Asiamah; former Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana are some of the names that have been speculated from which one is expected to land the role.

In August 2019, Mr John Dramani Mahama debunked a report of the choice of Prof Kwesi Botchwey by state-owned Daily Graphic as his running mate as “false”; he however did not give indication as to whom or when he would announce a name.

With barely a year to go to the polls, the opposition party has not been forthcoming with its campaign message and strategy for annexing the seat, save some public commentary on issues of government policy and its flagship Free SHS, which it says it would review should it come to power in 2021.

Who would become its vice presidential candidate still remains in the dark, but Mynewsgh.com sources say a Northern-Bono-Ahafo or a Northern-Eastern ticket is more likely.
