The Minister-designate for the Interior, Mr Prosper Bani, has said that the cocaine trafficking case involving incarcerated Ghanaian-Austrian Ruby Nayele Ametefeh will be reviewed if need be, if he gets the nod.
The former Chief of Staff told Parliament's Appointments Committee on Thursday February 11 during his vetting that: "I'll look into it and see how we can pursue that case further if there are gaps".
Nayele Ametefeh aka Ruby Adu-Gyamfi was convicted in the UK on her own plea in 2015 to serve eight years, eight months' imprisonment in connection with her trafficking of 12.5kg of cocaine to the United Kingdom using the VVIP section of Ghana's Kotoka International Airport.
State prosecutors in the country also alleged that one Sadalia Nuhu and another lady identified as Nana Akua Amponsah, also a businesswoman, had travelled with Nayele, but managed to escape from London to Accra after she was arrested in the United Kingdom.
The two were later left off the hook by an Accra Circuit Court.
Mr Bani, told the Committee that: "Measures have been taken to tighten security arrangements at the places where these individuals [drug traffickers] slipped through".
He further explained that: "The necessary administrative and security measures that will reduce such acts in our airports have also been undertaken by the necessary agencies".
Mr Bani said investigations on the case "were started and I believe that investigations are still ongoing, if it has not been completed, then we have to look at it and see how we can address the issue".
The specialist in international peace-building and development processes believes "narcotics trade and trafficking must be solved or reduced" in the country.
