The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will rope in a few locally assembled vehicles from the Kantanka Automobile Ltd during its campaign for the 2016 general elections.
The flagbearer of the main opposition party Nana Akufo-Addo disclosed the party will purchase some of the pickups of the local vehicle manufacturer after a successful test drive on Monday.
“Earlier today, I test drove a Kantanka Omama pickup and promised to purchase a few for the upcoming campaign,” the three-time presidential candidate of the Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition said.
The former attorney general and minister of foreign affairs also gave the strongest indication that his government will support local companies.
“I assured the Management and Staff of Kantanka Automibile Ltd, and by extension all local manufacturing companies that if I win the 2016 election and become President, my government will support local, Ghanaian manufacturing companies,” Nana Addo posted on his Facebook wall.
The safety of the Kantanka vehicles has been approved by Ghana's Drivers Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
The Ghana Police Service is already using one of the pick-up trucks.
