FLAGBEARER OF the Convention People's Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom last Thursday took his campaign to another level when he told Ahanta Chiefs in the Western Region that he is the most handsome of all the contenders in this year's presidential elections, and therefore deserves their votes.
According to him, if the electorate were to consider the Creator's handiwork in this year's general elections before casting their votes, then he would have no challenger among all the contending flagbearers.
"When you compare all the pictures on the posters of all the presidential candidates you will realize that I'm the most handsome among the rest".
Dr. Nduom made these declarations when he addressed the chiefs at Essikado near Sekondi as part of a day's campaign tour of the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.
He indicated that even though the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. John Evans Atta Mills was a Fante like him, his (Dr. Nduom) chances of winning the December 7, 2008 polls were brighter than those of the NDC flagbearer.
To this end, he stressed that when given the nod as the next president of Ghana, he would make the NDC candidate, chairman of the Council of State under a CPP government.
Dr. Nduom noted that he started his political career as an elected assembly member and that he was the best among the other qualified candidates to become the next President of Ghana.
He told the chiefs that the next CPP government would implement policies for the people in the Western Region to get the change they could feel in their pockets.
He said a CPP government would re-design and develop the region into modern communities with proper waste management systems, public parks, libraries, schools, good drinking water, health facilities and other social amenities.
"The road network will be rebuilt with first class standards to merit the status of a resource rich area of the country," he added.
He said CPP would completely restructure the railway system in the country which would include the implementation of light rail systems in major cities and expand it to reach the northern parts of Ghana.
On education, Dr. Nduom mentioned that a CPP government would reintroduce free, compulsory education from kindergarten to senior high school level so that children in every part of the country could have quality education.
He noted that his administration would construct modern fish landing facilities with complete fishing harbours including decent places for fish processing and boat-repairing centres for fishing communities in the region.
"We will also act with a sense of urgency to protect our fishing grounds from illegal activities of foreign fishing trawlers and assist local fishermen to also acquire bigger and modern fishing trawlers."
He pointed out that the next CPP government would ensure that the oil and gas discovered in the region would lead to the industrialization and modernization of the area and pave the way for a petro-chemical industry to create jobs that would pay living wages to the people.
Mr. Ladi Nylander, National Chairman of the CPP, mentioned that the party would strengthen the Narcotics Control Board with all the human, financial and other resources to fight the drug trade in Ghana.
Awulae Agama Tu Gyan II, Paramount Chief of Gwira Traditional Area, who was chairman of the meeting, urged the leadership of the various political parties to urge their followers to desist from acts of violence in their campaigns.
