Mr Frank Agyekum, the Spokesperson for former President J.A. Kufuor has said the former president is not bothered about his failure to make the list of Africa’s most iconic figures.
Mr Kufuor is happy for those who made the list, his spokesperson said. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) African Service said as part of activities to mark 50 years of Africa independence, it decided to conduct a poll and “after much heated debate,” some 50 people including Ghana’s former President Jerry Rawlings, Kofi Annan and Dr Kwame Nkrumah were chosen as the continent’s most iconic figures.
The list of 50 include 13 former Heads of State; two serving Heads of State; 12 musicians and models; six writers; eight political leaders and activists; seven footballers and athletes and generated a lot of discussion.
Some people have asked why Mr Rawlings’ successor, John Kufuor’s name is missing from the list but the former president, according to his spokesperson, has not been concerned about recognition.
On his part, Kofi Adams, the spokesperson for Jerry Rawlings says the former president has not heard the news because he is busily engaged in other productive things.
In any case, Kofi Adams said, Mr Rawlings has not been scrambling for recognition. He said the former president has lived his life according to his principles and that the recognition given him by the BBC was surprising.
