President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow over the devastating fire that ravaged the Kantamanto Market in Accra on Thursday, January 2, 2024, leaving numerous traders shattered and their livelihoods ruined.

During his last State of the Nation Address on January 3, 2024, President Akufo-Addo extended his heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the tragedy.

"I am deeply saddened by the devastating fire at Kantamanto market which took place yesterday and has left many traders and their livelihoods in ruins. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathies to the hard-working traders who have lost their goods and investments," he stated.

He assured the affected traders that the government is committed to working with relevant agencies to investigate the cause of the fire and provide necessary support for recovery.

"The government stands with you and will work with relevant agencies to ascertain the causes of the fire and provide the needed support."

Akufo-Addo called on the nation to come together in compassion and solidarity to support those who suffered a loss.

"Together, we can extend a helping hand to our fellow Ghanaians in need during this challenging time," he noted.

The devastating fire that engulfed Kantamanto Market in Accra's Central Business District claimed one life and left 14 others seriously injured.

The fire, which started at dawn on Thursday, January 2, 2024, ravaged large sections of the market, affecting over 30,000 traders and destroying over 7,000 shops.

The fire has left many traders counting their losses as goods and investments worth millions of cedis were destroyed.
