Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako says he is happy the appointment of Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor sends chills down the spine of functionaries and government officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He opined that some NPP folks feel "uncomfortable" with the presence of Martin Amidu to occupy the Special Prosecutor's office.

He believed it was the aim of President Akufo-Addo to select Martin Amidu to put members of the NPP in check just as he will do with opposition parties.

Kweku Baako, speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's Kokrokoo on Wednesday, February 13, 2018; posited that if the appointment of Mr. Amidu didn't intimidate the NPP as much as it does with opposition parties, it would have lost its relevance.

“I’m so happy that there are NPP people who feel uncomfortable and they must be. Of course! If NPP people feel comfort, they’re in a comfort zone with the nomination of Martin; then this whole thing is a non-starter. The incumbent party, the ruling party and its functionaries; if they feel comfortable with the nomination of Martin Amidu, then this thing is a non-starter. So, that’s exactly the purpose of the nomination and (fortunately) eventually the appointment after approval by Parliament”.

He described Mr. Amidu as "fit for purpose" and affirmed he (Amidu) won't compromise on his integrity.

“He’s not a perfect human being. He’s not infallible but he has integrity…He’s made mistakes before. He’s said things that have hurt people before. He’s said some things he cannot prove because they were never really true” but he is very “fit for purpose”, Mr. Baako averred.
